Certainly true about the weather.  We usually plant cool
season crops (edible roots, edible leaves, cole) beginning
in mid Sept through about mid November.  But the daytime
highs are still in triple digits and it has just been too
hot to start those crops.  Corn planted on Labor Day is also
not looking very good.  -Olin
