Square Foot Gardening List - http://myweb.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Juglone *is* destroyed in composting, it takes about a month of high
activity composting to get it. I did this in Baltimore when I lived there,
on the advice of local extension agents, and later Organic Gardening
magazine got Harry Hoitink, PhD, of Ohio State University, to weigh in on
this, and he gave the above advice.
So, yes, compost those leaves and nut husks, be advised that the nut itself
will compost oh so very slowly. If you are not a compost shredder and turner
type, make sure the walnut stuff is contained within the moist active part
of the pile, as materials left on the edges may be slow to break down,
juglone and all.
The roots are another matter, they will remain toxic to plants for some time
even after the tree is killed if left in the soil. Could be a situation for
container gardening or deep double digging and root removal.
