Re: Black Walnut question

Square Foot Gardening List - http://myweb.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

You know -I just have to put my 2 cents in here- My last home had a huge
back walnut tree and I was a novice gardener and didn't know I wasn't
supposed to sompost with the leaves or mulch with it and I iused it on
EVERYTHING inclduing the litle begie plot I had. Supoosedly nothing would
grow under the tree but I had beatufiul stuff that came badk year after
year- flowers bulbs bushes- the tree was enormous and the leaves just went
everywhere. I used that black gold compost to plant everthing in that yard
and everything thrived. Then I read about how bad it was and suddnely got
all worried. For one thing- What should I do with all of the danged leaves-
and where would I get more. I finally decided that the things in the yard
must have adjusted to the tree. Maybe they slowed down some- but not that I
could see- I had a beatuful flower garden and a leftover vegetable garden
from the previous owners.I was a novice and just dumb enough to not notice
anything except that there were flowers and fruits and vegies everywhere and
that seems like a good thing to me! Just my experience. I wound up cutting
the tree down tho becasue it was right near my front porach and was an
incredibly messy dirty slimy tree. Then everything that was used to its
filtered sunlight DID die.LOL!-Teri
