Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Does anyone know where complete information may be located on the Internet
for starting a square foot garden from scratch? This last year we had about
25 5 gallon buckets into which we put top soil and potting soil and had some
success growing tomatoes, peppers and zucchini, but we would like to garden
on a much greater scale next year, and would like to know how to start a
compost pile, and the steps involved in setting up a square foot garden. I
envision several 4 foot squares made by using 2X12 pine (for example) and
building frames, then filling them with some sort of soil mixture. Do you
dig up the grass before you put the frames down on the ground and fill them
with dirt? What would you recommend as an ideal soil mixture for growing
vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, corn,
etc.? We would like to have about 8 of these frames in our back yard. We
live in Houston, TX, and also were wondering if we can plant anything still
this fall and hope to have it grow. I know it is late in the season, but it
has just recently cooled off a little bit down here, and I was wondering if
it was too late to have a fall garden. Well, any help and advice will be
greatly appreciated, TIA, please reply to rfdillon@hal-pc.org
