Hi Julianne,
I already posted a 'what I did' post , so here's a 'what Mel said'
post...In his Cash from Square Foot Gardening, 1985, he says to mix three
inches of soil mix with a shovel depth equivalent of original soil; then
add three more inches of soil mix and mix that in; then top it off with a
couple inches of pure soil mix (Melsoil, as you call it). So you have a
perfect Melsoil on top, sliding down into a fifty/fifty mix at the bottom,
still pretty fancy by ordinary gardening standards...
By the way dirt is pretty amazing stuff; a single gram of it may contain
several million bacteria of over 14,000 species...there's a lot of divine
intelligence in there that has yet to be fully understood by the human
mind....so 'dumb as dirt' may be smarter than you think...:-)
