2 areas of questions.
First, I have strawberries in a corner of one of my 4'by8' bays.
They were (small) transplants from some friends gardens,
they have produced nothing but a profusion of runners.
I have been pulling the runners back into the squares they
originate in. Friends here tell me that they will take over any
bed they are left in.
My questions.
1) Do they need to be in their own seperate bed, or is runner
control adequite.
2) How does one control the runners. Should I cut them off close to
the plant, or just tuck them back in bare spots (what I have been
doing)
Last year I gardened in containers, pretty good harvest for 1/2 - 1 gallon
containers. This years square foot style beds are their first year. Each
4x8 bed has 30 gallons of compost (courtesy of the city) been double
dug to 24 deep. (However I did not read closely enough when I did my
first bed and all 24" of soil are mixed together)
My tomatoes are doing nothing. I have had a half dozen tomatoes and all
the rest come from friends. (mercy tomatoes)
My tomatilla and peppers (numerous varieties) are doing great, I have
Jingle Bells, Banna Peppers, Thai Peppers, Jalapeno, Pimento and numerous
others. Outside of spices and cucumbers this is all am harvesting.
Can these variety of peppers be used in Ristas? I have read about
drying and pickeling and freezing and probably will try each of these.
1) But can any of these peppers just be dried and left out on strings?
I know you can with anaheims but how about Banna and the rest.
2) If I chose to do this do I have to wait until the peppers turn full red,
or can I dry green peppers?
I prefer the flavor of Red peppers but would really prefer not to sacrifice
the productivity of picking early. Of couse with as many plants as I have
this is probably not a problem. (24 squares of peppers...)
And I am the only one in the family who likes peppers.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
