I have 4 squares of strawberries. I let the runners root anywhere in the
4 X 4 square for now. In the early spring, when almost everything else
in the square is gone, I replant the runners in the correct squares.
Since there is some die-back of the original plants every year, these new
runners take their place. However, if the strawberry runners get out of
the raised bed, they get whacked by the lawn mower. <G>
If you don't want the runners rooting "hither and yon" then tucking them
into the bare spots should work. Or, if you have enough, start a new
square with strawberries or give them to another friend.
