Fall Onion Seeds

Hi everyone ---

I'm in Zone 7b (Midland, TX).    Several folks on the list said they
plant onions in the fall.   I'm wondering if I should "brodcast" them
over a bed and transplant the shoots next spring or try to set them in
some sort of final spacing.

Can anybody with fall onion experience give me advice?
