Harvest of Green Tomatoes

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I'm replying on my results of ripening green T's. As stated in an E-Mail the
first part of Sept., I used 3 methods:

      a) nearly ripe: kitchen counter (NOT a window--avoid sun)
> b) totally dark green (should have a "WHITE STARBURST" @
blossom end of tomato B4 picking to ensure ripening):
shallow box on shelf in basement--with no cover on anything
         & none touching
> c) yellow/pink: hang whole plant/s by roots on line in garage &
> cover a bit with a piece of plastic (to trap some of the
> ethylene gas they give off & maybe hasten the ripening a bit)

RESULTS: (a) & (c) gave perfect fruit after 7 days---bright red, juicy, &
delicious served in any way..... (b) was a disappointment---after 13
days a few were reddish, hard, & not very juicy. Maybe I should have waited
a longer time for these.

Anyway, next year I'll have a method to use to save & enjoy those not quite
ripe T's instead of throwing them in the compost pile!!

Keep the faith!
