Planting time.
I used the paper-towel-pad-in-baggie germination method for many experiments because it is easier to monitor growth and is quite photo-friendly. While it saves a lot of space, it also takes more time than perlite in dishes because more frequent attention is needed to keep the moisture at the proper level.
In this first picture, all three seedlings are ready to plant but the one on the right is the optimum size.
![]() These three might survive if planted, but I found that the overall survival rate was significantly lower for those planted before the first leaf broke through.
