Re: HYB: Metallic gilding

Yes, it does look like a metal-flake or glitter flakes.  It is quite different from the diamond dusting because the standards and falls have a lot of it scattered around.  It looks more integrated with the petal.  The flakes almost seem to lay on the surface.
 
The R&I doesn't mention anything other than gold edge.  Maybe it does have something to do with climates or soils.  It is very a interesting edge.

So far, 16 seedlings in the sunroom from Prince George X Designer
Gown.  Interesting that the registration descriptions of these 2
don't mention the edge at all.  Maybe only shows up in certain
climates or with certain micronutrients or ph.
 
Sutton's have one called Spike that apparently makes little calcium
deposits on the blooms.  Maybe a related thing.
 
Who knows?  We need a chemist in May.
