A little too much excitement here Fri night. Downburst knocked down
trees and snapped power poles all thru my little valley. Plenty of
(rain ~ 1 1/2 inches in less than an hour) and small, shredding hail.
3 ft diameter pecan came down on top of my house, bounced and slid to
end up mostly here. Tough 100+ yr farm house with solid wood walls, or
I suspect I would have been squashed.
Just finished getting the tree cut off the house and can now see the
dent in the ridgeline where part of the tree hit.
Also added some more "mulch" to this year's seedlings, still (more or
less) in their germination pots.
High winds and gusts brought down yet more trees yesterday, tho no more
in the yard or on the driveway.
The good news is that the pots of DECADENCE, and a few other pollen
sources were undamaged on the porch out of the worst of the weather.
And while all the blooms in the field were shredded, most buds opened
the next day. Many had holes in them, but were otherwise ok.
I have new appreciation for why those in windy parts of the country
don't like tall irises.
