There are some judges, when show judging, that consider a clear rim to be the result of freeze damage or evidence of an aged bloom.  You might know different, if it's your iris, but some are quite set in their ways. 
 
I wouldn't take such a seedling to a show, based on comments overheard while clerking.  I'm interested in reading other's comments.
