RE: TB: HYB: clear rim on falls

Hi Francelle,

I love your postings of your seedlings to the chat line!  I see nothing wrong with the clear rim, but of course am NOT an accredited AIS Judge either.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and not everyone appreciates a beautiful flower if they have the idea that something is a defect.  I think the seedling is lovely!   Years ago, flounces, spoons, hooks, and rebloom was viewed as a flaw also, and look how far we’ve come since then to now accept these Space Agers!  Keep up the GREAT work, and like my mother always told me, “Don’t believe everything that you hear!”

Have a wonderfully Thanksgiving Holiday!

Subject: [iris-photos] TB: HYB: clear rim on falls

This seedling of mine has a noticeable clear rim on its falls.  In sunlight it glitters like tiny drops of dew.  I thought that it was pretty and gave distinction to the iris.  However, noted hybridizer said that he considered that type of rim a defect and destroys seedlings that have it.  I would like other opinions about this.
