I've had this iris since 1992, bought from a local nursery, one of my first TB's.  It blooms so seldom, I never thought to compare it to my other black iris, ie Superstition.  I don't have any other black iris planted in that bed either.  And I can't find any pix of Black Beauty, even on HIPS.

So where did you get plant from? It looks far too advanced for a black iris from 1939.

Taking into account a better photo & a different angle, it sure looks like my Black Beauty, which is quite lovely.

The only registered iris with the name "Black Beauty" was 1939.
It does not look like a 1939 iris to me.

Does anyone know Jan Leaky of Missouri?
I don't have a good phone number for her and am trying to find out the name of the iris
