El, I only lost my tectorum the winter before when we got heavy rain then frost before snow cover.  Had them for many years successfully, with healthy neglect in different locations.  Two pieces survived, then I had to move them last year again, and we will see.  At least one looks alive, good snow cover this past winter.  zone 4 here.

     I guess Berlin was too cold for them?  Or maybe not enough heat in summer?
