Re: Sunset Zones

Sean,
To stir things a little more, here is a link to a map showing chilling hours for the state of Florida. I am slightly north of the boundary between the 420-540 hour zone and the 310-420 hour zone. http://www.garden.bsewall.com/topics/hardiness/chill.htm

Here is a link to a heat zone map of the state. http://leon.ifas.ufl.edu/images/AHS-Plant-Heat-Zone-Map-2.jpg I am in heat zone 10 and have temperatures at or over 86 F almost half the days of the year.

Hmmm. My zip code, which is only four miles wide, apparently straddles Sunset Zones 41 and 39.ÂTheir online Plant Finder informs me that the cactusÂCoryphantha viviparaÂ(which grows well here) can be grown in Zone 41 but not in Zone 39.ÂZone 41 crossesÂUSDA hardiness zones 4a through 6bÂ(-30 to 0ÂF lows) and areas with average rainfall fromÂ25 to 50 inches. I'm not sure that's any more useful than the USDA zones!
