Jaime, I attempted to beautify a local artificially restored wetlands park by planting some virginica var. shrevei and some mixed Louisiana cultivars along the pond edges.  When bloom season came all the gloriously colored Louisianas got dug up (stolen) by park visitors but the less flamboyant species are still there and thriving and spreading.  In another park pond I did the same with versicolor and planted them amongst the Acorus and Typhia so that people would be less likely to steal them.  They're doing great!  I go back every spring and see them in bloom.  I tried a planting of brevicaulis but they got severely trampled by fishermen and kids stomping along the pond edge.
