HYB: long chill requirements?

Just wondering if any of you know which bearded iris species evolved in
a climate with half a year of temperatures between 32 and 45oF.

A lot of the tall bearded irises I'm working with (mostly Immortality,
Matrix, Renown, Harvest of Memories) seem to take 4 months or longer in
the fridge before they <start> to germinate and another couple of months
or so to finish.

High elevation near the tropics?
