Sort of off the topic here, but Ellen mentioned this under this
heading.
Just wanted to comment that the "pink" of 'Susan Bliss' is relative.
It is not the pure shell pink that we see in many TB Irises now, but it is what
passed as pink before these came along. It is very pink looking to me, out
in the sun, unless of course a true pink is next to it.
In reality this "pink" of old I. pallida clones is a decidedly purplish
color. However, next to the "blue" clones of I. pallida (which are also a
bit purplish), these "pinks" look very pink, and the "blues" look very
blue. Neither color photographs well, and often they look the same on the
resulting pictures. I've also noticed that in artificial lightly they look
quite different.
When in bud, the tight petals of the "pinks" have a deep purple coloring
(leaning to the red side of purple). The "blues" look deep blue (a tiny
bit purplish - perhaps deep "violet-blue" would be more accurate).
Here are a couple of other links to photos of 'Susan Bliss'.
