I also enjoyed the photo! So far I've killed a few seedlings but still hope to grow it someday. I'm wondering if my summers are a bit hot and dry for it. This is barely hardy here, I'm sure it would prefer zone 7 or 8. I almost missed it as it's hiding between a couple of hellebores. The flower is about an inch across and the scape is 5 inches tall. Native to Hong Kong and other parts of southern China. Literature would indicate it consorts with bamboo.I think we have a bunch of lurkers on the list or something, Jim. I've been oohing and ahhing over your photo since you posted it a couple days ago but nobody else has jumped in yet, so I guess I'll be the first. That is simply gorgeous! The style arms on that thing rival tridentata for showiness, IMHO. I can't believe you are able to grow this species in Missouri. Do you have it outdoors? Is it against your house? I'm really glad you were lucky enough to catch it in bloom. Several times I've missed things bloom their first year and it just kills me when that happens. Congrats!
