Hi all,
I've been reading the discussion of these two with interest; I thought I
remembered a recent article in the SIGNA bulletin about these two, so I
looked it up. "Recent" is relative, I guess--the article I wanted was in
issue #60, spring 1998. Tony Huber was the author. He lives in Laval,
Quebec, and hybridizes the water irises. His article is a thorough
discussion of the characteristics that define each of these two and their
hybrids. There was another mention in the SIGNA bulletin much more
recently, fall '03, # 71. Carla Lankow briefly talked about how difficult
it is to identify them positively; her conclusion was that the seed pods
are the best guide.
Back issues of the bulletin are available from Carla Lankow, 11118 169th
Ave. SE, Renton, WA 98059. Issues up to #62 are $4, 63 and onward are $5
(color issues). Indexes are available too.
