Re: Sisyrinchium palmifolium

This genus seems to fit this design of short lived plants, and good seed set in my yard.
I have a few relatively long lived clumps, which slowly spread around vegetatively, with the centers dying back.
Meanwhile, most set seed. I weed them out of the areas I don't want them in, and leave them alone otherwise.

Jim, Dennis, Kathleen,
That sure is a pretty thing.  Some years back, I remember someone [I think it was Bill Shear but am not 100% certain] wrote that Sisyrinchiums were fairly short lived plants, and perpetuated themselves from seed.  Does anyone know if this is true?  I know I have seen large clumps eventually vanish, and another colony arise somewhere else.
