Re: Sometime back in days or yore....

Being the first to admit that I don't even keep good records of when my own Iris bloom, I still think this is a good idea.  Of course from year to year the bloom time can vary up to a month from season to season in a given locality.  Even so, it could indeed be very useful.

I think that a great deal of information along these lines could be gleaned from going through the various Iris discussion group archives.  There are lots of "blooming today" posts, and many are for species.

As for me, this year, things are rather late, but catching up fast now that the weather has flipped over from winter to summer.  There are no Iris blooming yet, except for I. reticulata and danforthiae (excuse spelling if it's off), which started roughly the last week of February and ended last week (I saw one last flower on Friday).  This was at the Rio Grande Botanic Garden in Albuquerque, where I work.

Last night was one of those incessant hours long wind storms, and it was probably gusting to around 75 or 80 mph.  It destroyed a lot of buds coming out on trees and shrubs, and shredded all my bulb flowers, but I don't think it bothered the Iris much (a few torn leaves).

My I. imbricata is budding (by the way, thanks again to those responsible for helping me get it).  However, I have to disqualify it, as it is in a greenhouse.

I know they aren't Iris, but the early fruit trees, Forsythia, and such are finally flowering (that is if the flowers didn't all blow off last night), and it is nice.  The earliest of the trees to leaf are now turning green.
