I did it just now. I could not stand failing.
I accomplished the separation by making a shallow cut on the underside of the fall near the beard tip. Then, bending the fall in the opposite direction at about 280 degrees and gently forcing them in opposite directions.
This produces a section of translucent "film" from the top side of the falls. Likely a one cell thick layer. I've not dug the microscope out to confirm the thickness. I will not be able to do so immediately.
