Re: OT: variegated glad

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the reply and offer of seed.
The growing season is also very busy for me as well as I have a landscaping business which often leaves me wishing for more time in my own garden.
Yes, I will watch my glads here and when I think your earlier glads should be bearing seeds I will send an email.  I may bug you for seeds of all your varieties if I can then.
Thanks again,
Jim in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
P.S. are there any native plants that grow here whose seed I could interest you in?  Do you grow a variety of plants?

Hello Jim,
I am curious is this glad closely related to Gladiolus communis?  I
grow this glad in my garden here in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan zone
2b-3.  It appears similar to your Gladiolus italicus, but italicus
would be about 3 feet? and communis about 12 to 15 inches.
I wonder if italicus would be hardy here as well.
I don't suppose you would be willing to share some seeds of italicus
with me?
Can you tell me where you are located?
Jim in Saskatoon

Hi Jim, I also grow G. communis and it is very cute, didn't think it
was that hardy tho as it always gets scorched by late frosts. Guess
it just comes up too early here. Still, it recovers and flowers
nicely. I have a large form of italicus that always gets badly
damaged by frosts and rarely blooms, it is from Southern Italy, The
hardy italicus I have always flowers well but is smaller at only
about 2 feet. Always happy to share, but bad about remembering to do
so. Also most years work gets crazy from mid spring till fall and
leaves little time in the garden. Remind me later and I'll try. Yes,
nagging really does work wonders.
