Thanks for all the replies. It seems like good old-fashioned wire mesh is the way to go. I'm going to try to duplicate Kathleen's set-up. The half-inch mesh sounds ideal, as I do have chipmunks in residence. At the moment my seedling pots are only protected by a layer of snow, which will probably melt away this afternoon. So I'd better stop off at the hardware store after work!
