Iris setosa var. canadensis and Iris hookeri are synonymous, but hookeri is scarcely used any more. I don't find them long lived here either, but I'm going to try more frequent division ( if I get around to it, that is).   Joan Cooper   Minnesota

I think it's Iris hookeri.  Sadly the setosa clan don't do well for me down 
here in Ohio... I think they resent our summer heat which can reach in the 
triple digits.  They're practically annuals (okay, maybe biennials) here in 
my garden.
