Re: Re: milesii hybrid

I should be sending I. milesii seeds to the SIGNA seed exchange this year. I have two clones. A smaller white-crested one from a U.C. Berkeley Botanical Garden plant sale and a larger one with yellow crests (I've lost track of where it came from). I have the planters in the kitchen at the moment doing reciprocal hand-pollinated crosses. The small one is setting pods like crazy. The larger one has a couple of pods. I haven't observed them closely before. I keep thinking they are nearly done blooming but more buds keep appearing between the pods!

I tried crossing Woolong with several I. confusa this year with no results.

Thought I should mention that I grew I. milesii here in Minnesota for several years. I think they gave up in an especially bad winter. I'd like to try again. Does anyone know of a good source. Looks like some of my I. tectorum are at least sulking except Woolong is doing well. Shouldn't we make a point of mentioning our location when commenting to this group, location or, at least zone?            Joan Cooper     Zone 4
