Title: Meddelelse
|
This may not truly belong here, but this plant fits I. x germanica in all
details of behavior and morphology except color. If it was white or some
shade of purple, there would be little hesitation in calling it by that
name.
This clone is moderately common in New Mexico, and apparently also is found
in w. Texas and Oklahoma gardens. It rarely reblooms, most years
not. It appears to be an old "hand-me-down" cultivar. It is very
durable and can survive and in some sites even thrive in the
Albuquerque area without even extra water (just like most I. x germanica
clones). I have tried for years to match it to a name, with no definite
luck. It might be an old Sass hybrid, perhaps 'Golden Bow' (?). The
flower is an exact match for the one on the HIPS web site of 'Berkeley Gold',
but I have a strong hunch now that that photo is not correctly identified, and
is really a shot of this same IB clone (barely sneaks into TB size in some ideal
locations) cultivar.
Just a bit of food for thought. If I. x germanica is really the
result of a I. lutescens type 40 chromosome parent crossed with a TB 48
chromosome parent, then there is no reason whatsoever that there could not be a
yellow I. x germanica out there somewhere. There are plenty of clones of
rich yellow I. lutescens out there.
Any thoughts or ideas?
Since these are a bit larger than I intended, I'll send the second and
third photos of the same separately.
Thanks,
Dave
