Re: Unknown Spuria

John,

Thank you for your help in identifying my iris.  I do not remember why I was confused, but in reading the description in “A Guide to Species Irises: Their Identification and Cultivation” (by The Species Group of the British Iris Society) it sounds like a perfect match for Iris spuria subsp. carthaliniae

El,

My iris is a little over 4 feet tall at the tips of the leaves.  The flowers are probably between 4 and 5 inches in diameter.

I tried I. versicolor a few years ago from the seed exchange and they did very well.  Now I am going to concentrate on spuria types since this one is so tough and does not let other perennials mess with it.

I have been hesitant to move it because I read in various sources that it dies not like to be moved.  Maybe this is about it not blooming for awhile, not dying.  It is going to be a big job to divide it and I have been procrastinating.  I seldom loose plants, but I do not know of anyone else around here that has this plant.  Does anyone have experience moving or dividing this iris?
