Re: Double flowered irises

Is the article written and finalized yet or is someone still casting about for incidences and theories?

I noticed a Gerard reference to the subject in G&F the last time I was working with it although in that instance I believe the idea was that someone had said that some day someone would double irises and that was considered a bad thing, taste and abominations wise, although JNG said that the japanese irises had a notable natural predisposition to this and it was a good thing.

There is something about malformations involving extra parts in the essay on "monstrosities" otherwise freakish forms, in Les Iris Cultivees --see the translation on Lowe's old HIPS page at http://www.worldiris.com/public_html/Cultives/Cul1.html#anchor1869544'

And I think I recall something on abnormalities in the bibliographies of iris literature which Ethel did for the BAIS pr4ior to 1935. I could see if I could run that down.

Superstion Gardens probably has a nice photo of 'May Allison.'

Cordially,

Subject: [iris-species] Double flowered irises

Hi Chuck,

It looks like we are going to have a SIGNA article on double flowered irises. If you have higher resolution photos of the double pseudacorus and versicolor seedlings you posted to iris-species I'd appreciate you sending them to me. That will get the best photos possible in the article.

Thanks!
Rodney
