OT: weird weather/weirder gardeners

After a wonderful week of June-like weather with highs approaching 70,
we're suddenly in the midst of a blizzard! The irises are peeking out of a
fresh 3" layer of snow with more blowing in all the time. This may be the
year we find out how well LAs really do in the north.

We were scheduled to shear sheep this morning. Thankfully, it was called
off yesterday due to the pouring rain that swept in. I understand there's
some flooding in the lower areas and am thankful we're on a granite bench.
The plants were loving it. You could see the beardless irises grow!

Gardeners seem to have a mental block. Already, they're calling about
tomato starts. One person is hoping to swing by this afternoon for a start
of a sedum she's been drooling over since last fall. Divide it? I can't
even find it! The setosas at least, seem to feel right at home.

I found myself doing an earthworm search & rescue this morning on the way
back from getting the paper. The heavy rains must have brought them up d
uring what I think is a migration. The sight of them half frozen, trying to
crawl through the snow was too much. (They were heading south, BTW.) About
25 of them are now in the sunroom in a bucket of soil and I'm sifting
through saved seeds to put out for the birds since "earthworm" isn't likely
to be on the menu.

Temps should be back into the 50s at least by the end of the week, but it's
sure to be interesting till then.

Now, if it'll just get up into the 40s today, I can keep dividing
Siberians! :)
