Yeah, I am just on the warm side of the Zone 5/6 border. Arilbreds do
great here. I don't have a problem with "snaking" stalks like some of you
southerners have reported, but I definitely get frustrated with the weak
stalks that flop over in the wind.
Last year I obtained 425 seeds from about 20 crosses involving quarterbreds
and/or halfbreds. This year I have even more arilbreds to work with
including a few 3/4-breds that are sending up bloomstalks. Oh I also have
arils sending up bloom stalks.
Rain is definitely the bigger problem for halfbreds than cold temperatures.
However, I think the more oncocyclus background in an arilbred, the more
fussy it will be in colder climates.
