I.reichenbachii produces stalks over a longish period of time here so
had some buds nearly open during the freeze and others far along that
were killed, but is blooming now on later stalks. Sure wish all my
irises would use this strategy.
VICTORIA FALLS and my favorite pallida seedling are the only other iris
I grow that I've noticed have this 'style' of stalk production. Which
doesn't mean that others don't do it, just that I don't have big enough
clumps of very many things.
Have any of you noticed this staggered/delayed production of stalks in
different cultivars? It seems like a good trait not only to avoid total
loss to late freezes but to prolong bloom season.
Even would help the show bench crowd, so timing of bloom season wouldn't
be as important.
