Mary -- A belated reply: If you don't want to go to the expense of a
labeling machine, I have found that the plain old china marker on zinc lasts
for many years. Even after it is no longer plainly visible, the residue is
still legible. The problem with the china marker is that, because of its
waxiness, it isn't very neat, and you can't write as small as with some
other media.
