Not having a thermal printer I use a plain ol' #2 pencil (and plastic
slats when metal blinds aren't available in the local thrift shops). I
would expect Laser Printer Labels to be indelible (IIRC laser printer
toner like copier toner is based on an extremely fine metallic or carbon
dust) and likewise indelible Drafting Ink ("India Ink") which is
basically carbon dust suspended in shellac.
