RE: Labels-plant

After doing the Region 18 Spring Tour Guest labels the following way and
still having them look as good as when they were first done in 1997, we
think this is the way to go for the Sunday-go-to-meeting dressed-up garden
labels. After three years of rain, snow, heat, mud etc, you cannot tell
the ones I did this spring from the 1997 ones - honest.

1. Use Paw-Paw metal labels - Rose label size (1 1/2 X 3 1/2") - our
groups sell them at a slight profit to benefit the Youth activities - $30
per hundred = $.30 per label

2. Use paper from Horticultural Printers-Florida, Inc., 919 Alexander
Ave., Port Orange, FL 32119, 904-761-3006; 800-221-4843. Item # QPPS01; 8
1/2 X 11 White Vinyl Laser Sheets (100 sheets for $99-makes 18 labels per
sheet) not precut. plus 10.85 freight = $.06 per label

3. Print labels (we use 3 lines-Name, Type,Hybridizer-Yr in 18 point Times
New Roman) on plain paper and copy onto the above label paper thru regular
copier (Kinkos will do for almost nothing) and cut to size - 18 to page.
Peel off backing and press on metal label. Probably will work okay on
laser printer (which we don't have) if the thicker paper will go thru.

This is not for the everyday garden use and is a bit tedious to cut etc.
but they look as good as the expensive Brother label maker and last as
long. Just one more option.
