Hi James:
I. Pseudacorus thrives here in the Buffalo, NY area too..... in fact, I
advise people that if they can't grow it, they should probably be golfing.
But, if I understand the question, you are interested in irises that like
similar culture - so to that, I would suggest:
siberian irises: come in shades of blue, purple and white.... grassy
foliage, delicate. They like the cooler temperatures, moist soil and acidy
soil.
Japanese iris: all of the above hold true.... exaggerated. Much taller and
more robust than siberian iris. Need adequate moisture and acid soil. Also
shades of blue, purple and white... as well as some delicious raspberry. Can
be 3, 6, 9 falls - and are quite exotic.
