Re: [ HYB: questions - pollen, cristata X bearded]
Dana,
I just take the moist toothpick out of my mouth and roll it across the
anther to pick up the pollen, and then I transfer it to the stigmatic lip.
The same can be done with a (dry) paint brush or Q-tip, but I find the moist
(not wet) toothpick works the best, because when you are done with the
transfer, you can just stick it back in your mouth and reuse it again and
again. The paint brush would need to be dipped in alcohol or something and
allowed to dry completely before reusing, and the Q-tip you would have to
throw away after transfer, and it is really too big and cumbersome to use on
the stigmatic lip as compared to a toothpick.
