Hello All,
I too made a trip down to the Melbourne Flower Show, first time I had to pay
to get in as I havent been for years, and went I last went I was a pro
florist...Shocked to pay $16.00 entry or was it more, cant remember as I
spent big that day.It cost me $18.00 for the train fare..., anyway I had a
ball at Tempo Twos stand. Found they carried JI's, now that is good news,
and had one called Flashing Koi, that attracted my attention on Nicholls
Iris Gardens web page. How nice it was to find that TT carried it and
another few different JIs that I didnt have.So I indluged my iris virus, and
went a little wild. I did learn that it is wise to plan ahead and have
sturdy carry bags to tote all your new purchases home. The irises, bulbs and
clematis were a hit with all the other country train passengers, just goes
to show you can meet new people anywhere, especially when you have plant
bags and climber tendrils cascading all over a train cabin:). Next time I
will take more arms to aid my plant transportation, one kind lady suggested
a wheelbarrow. Cheers for now , Wendy Sargeant, Zone 8 today Aus...it is
freezing and an artic wind is howling and I am waiting for a foal to arrive
all the way from Queensland. Not a nice day to arrive here.

in damp spagnum. Some were shooting when I planted them, and I was getting a
bit worried about them, as it's been fairly hot dry and I've been away a
bit. But I went out to check this morning and the first plants had popped
up, mostly dwarfs so far. Should have plenty of time to pick them out over
winter

drive each way, plus breaks. Left at 7am Friday got to Melb at 4pm, had a
look at the show. Stayed with friend and drove back yesterday(Sat). Found
the most fantastic heavy duty trowel. We wear out trowels for digging plants
in much less than a year, so will give the 5 year warrenty on these new
German ones a real working over. Over 100 exhibitors in the trade section
with Tempo Two being the only seller of irises and daylilies. Lots of the
bulb growers were clearing excess stocks. Most had forced their tulips,
hyacinths etc. So there was a lovely smell of spring on a beautiful autumn
day. Some nice floral exhibits and many over the top as well.
