deer repellent sprays

Hello everyone. I'm new to this group and have a question.
Has anyone used deer repellent sprays on iris? I know that iris are 
arevery sensitive to herbicides, what about deer sprays? The major 
ingredient of these sprays is garlic, and they may also contain fish 
oil and soap. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Last year the 
deer not only nibbled on iris, but also pulled them right out of the 
ground.
