Re: SPEC: CAT: I. balkana/reichenbachii

The I. balkana I had in the 50's was red-purple flowered and produced for me
more red-purple seedlings. It may be a form of I. reichenbachii, but seems to
have produced rather different results in breeding. While the fall color in
reichenbachii descendants tended to be even distributed, those of balkana
tended to have a large spot.

I am skeptical about irises which have lost their names and then been
re-identified. Too much room for error. Label should say "possibly" or
"maybe" such and such a variety.

Seedlings are just starting to bloom well. Romantic Evening, Chinese New
Year, Ocelot seedlings are a joy to behold with their wonderful smooth
colors. The patch of luminata and glaciata seedlings is totally diverting.
Looks like an entertaining year in the seedling patch!
