Either the cookie set by Yahoo! has a fairly short expiration date, or the
cookies are being cleaned from your machine on a regular basis by you,
someone else, or a program that is set to do that on a regular basis. One
way you can work around this is to set your account to the e-mail option,
whether it is individual e-mails (you get each e-mail that is posted as a
separate message) or digest (all the messages posted in the previous 24
hours are put together in one (sometimes very) long message) format. This
way you get all your messages sent to your mailbox to be downloaded to your
machine as often as you decide to check your mail.
IMHO, web based mail sucks the big one, even with a broadband connection,
but if it is the only thing you got, I guess you learn to live with it.
FWIW, I get all my list mail, this list and others, as individual messages.
That allows me to go through the 100+ messages I receive nearly each day
(thank you for weekends) very quickly. While there are some advantages to
the digest mode, it means you need to scroll through the whole e-mail to see
if there is anything of interest.
If you are not using a mail program right now, but just using web-based
mail, check with your ISP on how to set yours up--it should be there
somewhere on their site and they should cover the major programs.

Subject: [iris-talk] OT: What to do about Yahoo
Fellow travelers,
Wanted to share some info before I get excommunicated again.
Three times now since Yahoo has taken over, I have suddenly found
myself unable to access iris-talk after visiting it regularly for
weeks. It is on my Favorites, route hasn't changed, but suddenly
they show me a screen for me to sign in and then don't 'recognize' my
ID and/or Password. Had to jump through a lot of hoops, including
changing ID and Password, to get reconnected.
This time, I went a different route. On the Yahoo search engine,
typed in iris-talk, which took me to the request to subscribe. I
clicked on it, and this time they recognized my e-mail address and
informed me I was already registered. So without changing ID or
Password, I got back, with ability to post and reply. Then I saved
that on my Favorites, with the same wording as before, and it
replaced that entry.
I know I'm not the only one having trouble with Yahoo over staying in
their 'memory', so this was easier than other routes I've tried to re-
register.
