Re: Cult; Rain at last

Thank you, Colleen, for the vocabulary lesson. Yes, sounds like what it takes for TB irises to grow and bloom.

  Francelle

Sorry, I beleive you'd call them chickens.

I thought our summers were hot enough, but yours sound worse.
Recently my husband was speaking to someone from Coober Peedy ( a desert
opal mining town) which has a climate to equal yours, and this man was
saying how well beared irises grow up there. Stinking hot in summer,
freezing cold in winter, not much water and alkaline soils.

  > Hi, Colleen,
  > As you head into winter, I am heading into summer, five months of
temperatures of 100 F degrees and above, my worst time of the year. Irises
here have been blooming since the middle of March and probably have two more
weeks to go. Every morning I go out and pollenize some of the blossoms.
Last year out of about 25 crosses, I only got one pod, so this year I've
made over 50 and it looks as though about 75% of them are taking. What work
I'm making for next spring when I have to set out all those seedlings!
Please enlighten me. What are chooks?
