<You know that may just be what is happening. I checked my notes for
last year and it looks like we had a month of good weather (not
freezing) and then in the middle of May we had a week of temperature in
the low twenties. It didn't bother the SDB
because I have them listed as blooming that week and the next, but
almost all of my TB's didn't bloom well last year (a lot not at all).
Maybe I should start treating them like tomatoes.>
The ones I treat like tomatos definitely bloom better <g>. Irises are
tough - they seem to be able to take the cold, even wild swings from hot
to cold and back again. But they don't handle long periods of time
being warm (above freezing at night for around a week or more), then
dropping back to the low 20s. From discussions we had here before and
my own observations, the mid-20s seems to be the lowest they can take
after mild weather without severe damage. And that applies to TBs
starting 4 to 8 weeks <before> bloom season, before any stalks are
showing at all.
