Our club order of irises from Tempo Two in Oz arrived safely last week
with an exciting batch of stuff. The box looked like it had been air
mailed - dropped directly out of the plane over Tennessee and bounced
thru the trees on the way down - good ol US Mail. I think that the tape
and mailing labels were all that were holding the box together. But the
plants look great.
We won't distribute them to club members till next week, so I have
heeled them in using a mix of washed and Clorox soaked coarse creek sand
(from the local creek) and soilless potting mix. They are in the shade,
at the base of a ravine where they get the coldest air (trying to
pretend it's a mild and overcast Oz winter for a week). For those of
you who've dealt with orders from upside down land, do you think this is
a good idea? Or should I have just left them dry in the box?
