Thanks Walter, Mike and Linda for all the suggestions about transplanting. I've noticed there are as many ways of germinating the seeds as there are people who try to do it. Once they get sprouted and two to three inches high, they are tough little plants and seem to be able to take a lot of punishing weather.
Speaking of weather, this week has been a pollen dauber's nightmare. The temperature has peaked at 94F every day and humidity at around 10%. The blossoms open with dry, pollen free stamens. Even when some pollen is found, it won't make pods. All the reproductive parts seem to have been overheated while still in the bud. Well, I'm certainly busy taking care of last year's seed crop. Perhaps I'll have better luck next year or even next week.
