Re: CULT - Timing?

I certainly concur that Sept and Oct are better months to move iris here. I
thing dry conditions at that time allow healing of wounds from dividing
clumps and light conditions at the time appear to be triggering plant growth.
I often suffer from misinformation supplied by others and do not want to be
the source of same. Too, my response was intended to address "can be moved"
as opposed to "best time to move". Too, there appears to be a difference in
moving an entire plant with dirt as opposed to divided and cleaned individual
rhizomes. So far, and my experience is limited, iris have been a forgiving
plant in terms of when, where or how I plant them (contrary to conventional
wisdom). The apartment writers you mention are a problem for me too. Some
recent literature from the county agents office recommends dividing
immediately after bloom. I've not done this yet but expect to test some this
year. Often feel like I must reinvent the wheel if I want to go further down
the road.

Walter, kindly share your thoughts on dividing immediately after bloom.
