Hello,
Made a walk through the iris beds last night to pull weeds and check
things
out.
All of my fans are about 5 inches tall, but no bloom stalks yet.
One of the iris I noticed was shorter, and the points of the fans
were all
yellow.
We had some nice days, then freezes about twice, so I wonder if this
is
freeze damage?
We moved in August and I brought most of my iris with me. What was in
two
beds, I spaced out into three.
I'm excited to see what colors come up where. I'll still check the old
house and see if I missed any colors and get them this fall.
I don't know what any of my iris are called -- but know I have a
Zebra with
varigated foliage and Jesse's Song (the only flower I could come up
with
that was close to Jessica when my daughter was born.) Most I've
gotten from
friends or family. I've never found a good way to mark the ones I have
purchased from catalogs or iris fields so I could remember their
names. I
just love the colors, and don't really care to remember the names.
Another question -- the previous owner of our home had planted a lot
of iris
on the north side of the house -- no sun, except very early in the
morning.
The fans are very thin and the rhizomes very small (probably because
of
little sun) -- I'll have to post a picture when they bloom -- but does
anyone know what type they might be? The middle "leaf" is lighter
green than the two on either side. The woman was in her 90s when she
died, so they might be an older variety -- also found some iris
growing in
an old wagon wheel in the ground on the back of the property. Once the
debris, weeds, leaves and limbs covering the flower bed were removed,
they
have really grown already this season. It will be fun to see what
these are
once they bloom.
